At the May 7th, 2024 meeting, the Town Council accepted the report submitted by the Riverwalk Expansion Special Committee (RESC). Town staff is currently working on the preliminary engineering and design for FY2025.

Riverwalk Vision Plan
From September 2022 through November 2023, the Town of Occoquan worked with the Berkley Group and community stakeholders to create a vision plan for expanding the Town Dock and Riverwalk. The process involved multiple opportunities for community input and produced visioning documents, maps, and vignettes that will help the Town and potential partners visualize the future Riverwalk.

Background
In September 2022, Town Council hired the Berkley Planning Group to support the Planning Commission on its Riverwalk Visioning process. A kickoff meeting between Town staff and the Berkley Group occurred on Thursday, October 27, 2022. A Riverwalk Visioning Workshop was held from 5-7 pm on Monday, January 23rd, 2023, at Town Hall with over two dozen community members in attendance. On the same date, staff also met with the Berkley Group for a tour of the potential expansion area. A second public meeting was held on Thursday, June 15th, 2023, to review the draft map and image boards for the vision plan.
In October 2023, the Berkley Group submitted the final vision plan for the Town Planning Commission’s review. At the November 8th, 2023 meeting, the Planning Commission made its recommendations to the Town Council. The Town Council subsequently authorized the Mayor to create the Riverwalk Expansion Special Committee (RESC) and appoint its members. The RESC reported to Town Council in May 2024 with a roadmap for expanding the riverwalk and realizing the Town’s vision.
